Cake photography

Recently I was hired to do a photoshoot for a new and growing baking company called Bakers_heart of their products for advertising purposes. I am a photographer and I usually get hired to do photoshoots of products and people but this time I got a call for shooting cakes and muffins. It was definitely challenging because I had never done anything like this before. Initially, I was a bit nervous doing this but then I did it with the help of friends and fraternity. It went well and was called again for a shoot. During the process, I learned a lot of things and it definitely helped me boost my confidence.

This CAS activity includes 2 strands, Creativity, and Service.
I was able to achieve 3 learning outcomes: L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth, L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills, and L4-commitment to and perseverance.

L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Photography, for a long time, has been my passion and I am continuously working to perfect this art. Every now and then, I am continuously trying to develop and improve in photography. I have attended photography summer school, participated in competitions, constantly learning from Youtube etc. This particular photo shoot helped me develop skills for photographing food as well. Because I was given this opportunity, I was able to experiment and develop a different way of thinking so that I could come up ideas to deliver the task with quality
L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills
The new skill I learned was the skill to photograph food. Many challenges came in my way while doing this photoshoot. As I am an inclined portrait photographer, I am used to taking people to beautiful locations for their shoots but as I had to photograph food, I can’t take food outside, I had to do interior decorations for that. This was the first time I did decorations indoor. The next challenge I faced was the lighting conditions. Usually, photoshoots are done outdoors where you can get pretty lighting because of the blue sky and the sun. Here, I had to control the lighting to make photos better, also I didn’t have any external camera flash so I had to use different torch lights and phones’ flash to adjust the lighting.
 L4-commitment to and perseverance.
The bakery wanted the shoot to be done in the morning so that they could deliver the cake in the afternoon. I had school on that day; still, I accepted the offer. I woke up at 5:50 am, got freshened up, took all my accessories and gears and reached their place at 6:30. I took around 45 minutes to complete and got back and went to school.
