About volleyball:-
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules.
Why did I choose Volleyball as my CAS activity:-
1. Playing 45 minutes of volleyball can burn up to 585 calories. It makes you fit.
2. Improves hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and balance
3. Teaches teamwork and communication and is a great social activity.
4. Improves muscle strength
5. To improve my skills under Volleyball and get selected for volleyball states
The learning outcomes that I met were:
L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I was the captain of the team so I had to make sure that which player has which skills and which player will play forward or backward before the match, for example, if I am good at tossing the ball I’ll stand on position 1. For improvement and practice in volleyball, I used to come to the camps in morning. Practice was highly needed as my states were approaching. Strategies and plans were made before the match that which player will play which position.
There are 6 players and each with a position. First one is the outside hitter, second is the left side hitter while the fourth one is the right side hitter, the 5th one is the setter(it sets the ball for 3 passes), the 3rd one is the middle blocker and the 6th one is the Libro (defender).

L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills
There is a quote saying “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you ” by- Fred Devito, and it means that challenges are part of your life, it develops your skills and makes you harder and bold. Challenges are obstacles that you have to overcome to improve and sharpen your skills. While playing volleyball there were many challenges. Coordination between the group was the big challenge that I faced during practice, partners weren’t cooperating with their partners. This was a very difficult situation to handle as my team was losing matches because of it, to overcome this we used to shout out yes before hitting the ball so that the other person doesn’t come in between, problems were resolved between the partners and a clear understanding was made that which player will play which side and position.
L4 – Show commitment to and perseverance
Commitment and determination were highly needed from the players. I was dedicated to coming to the camps in the morning and I had to make sure that each and every player also come. Commitment towards practice after school, during breaks and playtimes, was needed. As I was the captain I had to make sure that all the players were agreeing with the time we had our practice. If some had classes or any other issues, I had to reschedule it. I wanted everyone to practice as cooperation would also increase and also we could work on the 3 passes.
L5 challenges -. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working collaboratively mattered a lot, collaboration increases our group strength and also increase our defense. The 3 pass was highly recommended by our sir during the match which required a lot of coordination.
The Learner Profiles that I met were:
Reflective:- I have to reflect on my weaknesses and turn them into strengths.
Risk taker:- There was a lot of risks when you are a captain. The risks were managing the team, making them work cooperatively and with having no issues during the game and calling each and every player to come for the camps.
Communicate:- You have to communicate with other team members so that you can get to know the opponent’s weakness and then use against them.
