Our school being one of the only IB schools in Surat and having the values of spreading awareness and providing to the unfortunate. They took an initiative to held sessions for unprivileged students to learn a different variety of sport, arts, computers and more. These underprivileged students came from Barodhan, Tunda and Umra. As students of grade 11 in Fountainhead School we were expected to teach these students. We were expected to held 2 day sessions for 3 different batches. I taught computers (ICT) as I had taken up this subject in Grade 10 and had a good amount of knowledge about the subject. We had a pre planned syllabus provided to us by the ICT teachers team.
Syllabus we taught these students in the course of two days.
- Understanding the basic components of a computer
- Exploring google maps (They also had to find their home)
- Basic word document editing (Their name and other details were used to explain formatting and other tools of word doc)
- Basic presentation editing (We used their favourite hobby to teach them make a presentation about the same)
- Typing games (To increase practice and making them familiar with the keyboard in a fun way e.g.:- Tux Typing)
- Art tools (Eg:- Tux Paint)

We confronted numerous challenges and issues amid the task. There were couple of minor issues as lack of PCs and non working consoles such as some keyboards were not working, some displays were fluctuating. But with the support of the IT team we managed the students by adjusting and grouping some of them up, it sure took some more time but that was the only solution we could think of at that time. At that point there were issues like the dialect boundary. The students talked in their regular language(broken Hindi or Gujarati) which was hard to comprehend and we knew that speaking in english would not make sense. The arrangement I thought of being the leader I had many other Fountainhead students helping so I appointed 2-3 students per row, one of them was able to comprehend the students, one of them would help the kids with the computers and the last one would assist the others.

It was the school which composed the service program, nonetheless, it was the obligation of subject-wise leaders and teachers to design the syllabus for the subject. This arranging was somewhat entangled as we needed to make a syllabus that was fitting for the level of understandings of the kids, who were differed by age and foundation information of ICT. We couldn’t keep the syllabus excessively straightforward as that wouldn’t provoke them and show them a considerable measure. So we settled on the previously mentioned syllabus, which we observed to be suitable for them, and be more relevant to their genuine living. For instance, we showed them utilisation of google maps, which they can use to effectively discover their way in an obscure place. We likewise demonstrated to them a road perspective of their zone and they were euphoric, hopping up and nearly yelling as they discovered recognisable places on the screens.

I wasn’t very excited on the first day of this session as I was using up my weekend which I eagerly wait for the entire week. But after the first day things changed. I really liked how enthusiastic the kids were and how they wanted to learn. This made me motivated and highly committed towards them. Being the leader I made sure that all the students understood by asking in between and clearly planned for the other student-teachers on the white board how and what they have to do. I planned exactly what the fountainhead students had to do and made sure that everything was delivered to the the students/kids. This is how committed I was. Even though I was not appointed leader by our school but as I saw the leader not doing much I took up the responsibility.
LO5:-
This session would not be possible if our CAS co-ordinators and the rest of our schools team wouldn’t put the efforts they did. As for us as I said before I had appointed a particular number of students per row to make the teaching smooth. Thankfully it worked. We were a well oiled engine ready to run!
LO6:-
It is imperative for the next generation to have the fundamental information about computers as in the coming years technology is just going to grow and knowing this basic stuff will give them a push that they need to live in the technological forward world. innovation is a gigantic piece of the world and a major piece of everybodys life. It will gradually turn into a need to know about it to have the capacity to make due in the corporate life. Through this service session, we educated the underprivileged children how to work and finish essential operations on a PC.
LO7:-
The youngsters had extremely humble foundations. They didn’t have an exceptionally encouraged, top-notch schooling. With respect to this, I trusted that we, the understudies of high-quality education, must make certain not to appear to be exceptionally scary or rude or unapproachable as that would really keep them from taking in a ton. Keeping in mind the end goal to make an understanding, we must make certain not to appear to be excessively glad for ourselves as not exclusively would nobody have the capacity to legitimately learn with that kind of instructors, however that would likewise influence the kids to feel powerless, strange, and awkward. So I guaranteed that the ICT group was not inconsiderate towards, baffled by, or unwilling to help any of the kids.
