On the 8th of September, We visited a small village in Gujarat called Savarkundla. Every year, numerous lions die from falling into the wells. It was a trip of 3 days. We went there to make a fence over a well. In the 3 days. we did actions like welding, cutting and placing the cover perfectly over the well
On the first day, We were informed that how will the fence look like and how are we going to make it in these 3 days, On the first day, we were taught how to use a metal cutting machine and how to use a welding machine. Later that night, we slept on the ground, at a place which was open from all sides without any fans or ACs. The next day, we, ourselves did welding and cutting and prepared the entire cover. On the last day, we went to the place where we had to install the cover. The cover was perfectly installed and we returned home later that day
Learning outcome 2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process) and learning outcome 5 (Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively) was achieved. Doing welding and cutting metal was difficult for me. Both of the activities included working with sparks and if precautions were not taken, these activities can damage my eyes. After a lot of repetition, I developed this new skill. We divided our work amongst ourselves, we worked collaboratively to make this cover for the benefit of our environment and wildlife. We have taken an effective initiative to save the rare Asiatic lions which now only exists in Gujarat. We feel it is our responsibility to take initiatives like these for the benefit of nature around us.
