As a part of my CAS experience, I took part in the Culture Day activity in our school. We were divided into groups and each group was given a continent. Each student from the continent had to choose a country. We had to create a text type to represent the culture of that country. We were required to connect this to our Language course.
I represented Brazil which is in South America. Our group had created a restaurant/sports cafe theme. The text type that I chose was a menu card. I connected this menu card to the first learning outcome of our language course i.e analyze how the audience and purpose affect the structure and content of the text. All of us were also required to bring our country’s traditional dish.

While doing this CAS activity I came across some of my strengths and weaknesses. One of the strengths that I came across was my ability to create good photoshop pieces. I enjoyed working with photoshop to create the menu card. I intend to improve on my photoshop skills. We had to decorate our class to make it look like a restaurant and I was given the task to write the name of our restaurant in an artistic manner and I was able to do it quite well.
A weakness that I came across was that I was not able to present my content properly in front of many people.
I will try to work on this by practicing my content repeated times before any presentation so that I don’t forget it while speaking.
It is important for us to develop our strengths and overcome our weakness because these things help us grow as a person and makes our life easy.

Researching about a country is one thing but learning about it to represent it as your own is something else.It was a tough task to do justice to my country Brazil.I studied about their food and developed a compresses three-course menu. A dish from the menu had to be prepared and served at the Culture Day stall. It was my first time cooking a proper dish. I might have some skill because everyone liked it.
All these things were quite challenging. I tried to overcome the challenge of research, photoshop, and cooking by creating a plan. I completed my task in parts by doing little work on each day. It is important for us to undertake challenges so that we can learn new things in life.

Culture Day celebrations coincided with many other coursework submissions. It was very challenging to divide our time in a balanced way. In the run-up to the event, I dedicated time to research and preparation. There were elaborate decorations of the stall that was very time-consuming. Presentation on the Culture Day was for two hours. It needed perseverance but I came through and had a very good experience.

I do not have trouble working in a group. A collaborative effort is always better due to multiple hands and minds. Ours was a friendly group with a helpful team leader. We all participated in the decoration. Ideas, suggestions and even helping hands, it was a true teamwork experience.
