Football Competition

Recently I participated in two football competitions, one was the FS cup in fountainhead school itself and the second one was Y4G (Youth for Gujarat) at MTB ground. It was a great experience representing my school in both the competitions. So this is the time when we show all our practice and hard work. In such competitions, we get to know our strengths and weaknesses, and we can work upon that.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.

Going into such competitions is not an easy task, especially if you haven’t played many competitions. First I tried to identify my strengths and weaknesses so that I can work with them and make sure I am ready for the selections. When I was aware of my weaknesses, I tried to work on them made sure that it doesn’t cause any trouble to my team. So this helped me make fewer mistakes and with the help of that, I was selected in the team. After the selections, I continued working on my weaknesses and getting my body ready to play.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Working on your weaknesses and making it a strength is not easy. As you are working on something which you can’t do or something in which you are struggling. These weaknesses can be overcome by practice and with a proper trainer. My coach, Anwer sir, helped me face them. However, practice means spending a lot of time, since we didn’t have much time, we had to rush through the process. To make sure that we learn something from our mistakes, we had to come early to the school for camps. Consequently, I was not able to make those weaknesses my strength but I learnt few things which helped me play the competition. When the first competition was over, I tried to complete what I left before the competition. During the competition, I also learnt some new football skills by watching other players and exploring their style of playing. So overall I learnt many things and mostly overcame all my weaknesses.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience

Interest and enthusiasm toward the sport made be stay connected to it all the time. No one usually stops something which he likes. An artist paints or sketches all the time because he has an interest in that field, similarly with my elder brother watching football matches, I also started to build that interest. Soon I started playing it and identified many benefits of playing this sport. This encouraged me more and helped me stay committed to it. So for my selections, I had to work hard and push my self to play better and improve all the time. Waking up early for football camps is maybe what shows my commitment towards the sports and to achieve my goals. Learning from my mistakes and facing challenges required a lot of commitment and perseverance.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Football is a game which can only be won by working collaboratively. Coordinating with other team members is a must. To build this coordination, we use play matches in the PS slots and even go to play after school. By spending so much time with them, we get to know each others game or habits. This helped us score during the competition, as we know that a certain player is going to take these steps so we adjust according to that. This interest in the sport makes us play whenever we are free which is beneficial during the competitions.

I enjoyed this CAS activity, it was a great experience playing for the school and learning new things. It helped me maintain my fitness and achieve my goals, so I hope to continue activities like these.
