Music Head for the Farewell Event for the Batch of 2019

For the past 4 years, I had watched myself build friendships and make connections with my seniors, and being almost the same age, having similar and sometimes even sharing experiences with them were some of the best there were to be. Although when the time came to say goodbye, I wanted to make sure that they went away with something that they would remember and cherish for their lives. I took up the role of Music Head for this event and though initially, I ran into some hiccups, then end result was just beautiful, I managed to get the best out of it, the performance was amazing and they were just as pleased with the entire event as we were.

Over the course of the month that we worked on this event, I connected the following LOs to my experience:

Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Now I took on the category that I found was up to my alley the most, so I very obviously went for the music department, due to my passion for the same, I was able to chalk out a basic format for how the performance was supposed to go. We also structured the list of songs and how to perform them. For the overall event, I helped out in the decor for the location, I also helped out in the logistical department as well, if there were any issues, I always did my best to pitch in the most out of the box and creative solutions possible.

Initiate and plan a CAS experience
In order to make this entire event a success, it was crucial that I made sure that everything was planned out, even though towards the end, the plan sort of fizzled and we had to make some changes, the basic structure of the entire Idea was made clear to us, we had executed all our work with great finesse and the end result was picture perfect. The coordinators made sure that everyone was in the loop of all the ideas that were going about and that even if one man was not there then still the work would move on smoothly.

Commitment to and perseverance
This is something that I have built over the course of this CAS process, the entire time that we worked on this project, commitment and dedication towards making it a success was crucial for the actual success of the entire event, there was one point I remember when we had to distribute the invites in the form of a surprise, we had not been able to set up anything, yet in the last 10 minutes, the team committed to the work and we ended up having a very successful invite distribution ceremony. The act of committing to an event might seem easy, although there are times when you are struggling and you feel like giving up, although motivating myself through the smiles of my seniors was what kept me going.

Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
For this event, I was working as the head of a group of 6, there was a barrage of ideas that came from each one of them, and at first it was too much to handle, but towards the end, it went on quite smoothly, as I was able to filter the ideas and also work collaboratively in order to create a smooth flow of work. It was a lot easier to do work as I wasn’t the only one who was under pressure, the entire team took a hit if even one person made a mistake. Working in a team requires ones work ethics to be open-minded and one who seeks first to understand and then be understood, which is exactly what I followed which further helped me to grasp many amazing ideas. working as a team really helped me earn collaboration points and also work with people that I don’t quite often associate with.

Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and action.
Now there were some instances that were crucial for the project, and at times like this I faced a crossroad, and both options meant that I had to lose something to gain something else, in this case, it was losing time and gain quality or gain time and lose quality, and it was 5 days prior to the event, and this was after working tirelessly for over 3 weeks, with hard work and a lot of practice, we had to cut down and make a new medley in a matter of days, there was a time when there was great pressure on me and a lot of important decisions to make in order to save our performance. In the end, those very choices panned out to be their best and the performance went as smooth as it could.

Overall, this experience was heartfelt to its core and was very personal to me as I had a lot of close friends in this batch and working hard to make sure that in the end it was worth it for them, made me happier than they could have ever been, it was a pleasure working for this event, and it helped me to grow as an individual as well and showed me the power of working for another person’s happiness works out beautifully if you give your 100%.
