Savarkundla Trip

We went to a small town called Savarkundla for one of our CAS projects. Savarkundla is a very small jungle like place where there are a lot of natural wells. One of the major problems there was that the animals in the jungle used to fall down into these wells. So our main aim was to build a precise sustainable cover for the well which could prevent animals from falling into it. We planned this activity for 3 days and aimed to complete it within this timeframe. We planned to build the cover out of metal so that it is more sustainable.

By doing this activity, we learnt a lot and this experience helped us to look at other things differently. Also, it forced us to experience something outside our comfort zone.

I achieved a few learning outcomes by doing this activity:

  1. I demonstrated that challenges were undertaken and I have developed new skills. Building a cover for a well was something that I was doing for the first time and outside my comfort zone, so there were definitely a few challenges that I faced. One of them was sleeping in a place full of mosquitoes and insects without air conditioning or even a fan. However, I did learn how to live in places like these after encountering this so it did develop my skills.
  2. We initiated a plan before doing the activity. We planned the entire activity out which included, the tasks, the groups and other important details. We made groups and allocated tasks to each group to make sure we were more efficient. Before starting making the well, we took proper measurements of the well so that we do not waste any materials. Doing all this helped us successfully complete our task and also do it effectively without wasting any resources.
  3. I demonstrated the skill of working collaboratively. It benefited me and the entire group in completing the work on time. Working together speeded up our task and we were able to do all the things more quickly. Proper communication in the group helped us achieve this.
  4. This activity was engaged with the issue of global significance. This problem was a global problem as extinction of these animals may affect the entire world and so the solution to this global issue was necessary. Therefore we tried to solve an issue with global significance.

After completing this activity, I did learn to explore new things and adapt to changes. I also understood that working together as a group will make tasks much easier for you. Helping these animals does make me proud and if now any of them fall on the one we covered, I will be very happy saving a life of another living creature with a family just as ours.
