Teaching football to children

During one of my weekends, I decided to teach football along with my friend, to some of the underprivileged children in my area. I used a building compound near my house to teach them. The people living in the building had no problem with me using the building for teaching the children.

LO 1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I learn football daily in my school, so I wanted more and more children to learn about this sport. There were around 10 children who did not know how to play football, so I had to be very patient while teaching them. Succeeding in this activity would improve both my football and communication skills.

LO 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

We had to take care of around 8 children and they were just kicking the ball wherever they wanted, so it was very difficult to handle them. Me and my friend decided to plan it out properly and then give them the ball so we explained everything to them first.

LO 3- initiate and plan a CAS experience

As I mentioned before it was very difficult to handle all the children, so we planned as to what we had to do with them. We decided to teach them passing first, then teach them how to shoot and then after clearing them with the basic rules of the game we made them play a match. Overall it was a great experience.

LO 4- commitment to and perseverance

The game was new to them and it was very difficult to guide all the children together. They were not staying in one place, just chasing each other for getting the ball. At first I decided to give up, but then I had to complete the activity. My friend also tried to convince me to stop doing the activity, but I was able to convince myself and him to complete the activity.

LO 5-  Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

There were around 8 children and alone I would have not been able to complete the activity, with the help of my friend it became much easier and quicker to complete the activity. We both faced problems at the start but we talked the problems out. Teamwork is best for doing such types of activities.

LO 7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

As I said before, it was not my building so I had to take permission before teaching football over there. Most of the children were not wearing shoes while playing so I had to make sure that none of the children get hurt while playing as the responsibility was mine to look after them.

I had a lot of fun while teaching football to the children. I would definitely love to teach such children again.
