Service_Session_2017 @Fountainhead School (BasketBall)

This was an activity that was undertaken by Fountainhead School to support the underprivileged children by teaching them arts and physical sports. All the students from grade 7 to 9 and grade 11 were given an opportunity to provide service to the kids on the weekends from the categories that school provided. Grade 11 students were in charge of the activities and Grade 7 to 9 students were under them. I was assigned to Basketball and my friend was also accompanying me with it. We were assigned to follow the planning sheet and were asked to make sure the activity goes as planned. A decision was made that 4 groups will be divided among the underprivileged kids with a group having 5 members in it. The groups have to work cooperatively and ensure that all the tasks are completed on time. We taught them dribbling, layups from the center, right and left, taught them how to do right left jump and also taught them the rules of the game. We use to play a game in the last 15 minutes of the slot.

Learning Outcome 5 (Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively):- Different students had different skills in basketball, I was good at offence while my friend was good at defence and layups so we had to first recognise in which field we are good at. We had to make sure that we cooperate with the students of grade 7 to 9 and make sure that they follow and respect our decision and go with the plan that was made.

Learning Outcome 6 (Engagement with issues of global significance):- Earlier mentioned, that teaching the underprivileged kids was for a great cause and from that, I learned a lot. The activity can be termed as an issue of global significance. There are many children or in general, many people who do not get the opportunity to go to school or even in the worst conditions to learn/study at home. They may have many aspirations but they are broken down because of some of the issues: poverty, terrorism etc. I consider my activity under the LO 6 as I have engaged and helped the kids to play and teach them some of the basketball skills. There were many students who had played basketball for the first time. It was a great experience in general as I enjoyed a lot and also experienced new things.
