Service Session _ Football

CAS service session a initiative that our school has taken up. On weekends the underprivileged kids came to school from different areas of Surat. I am a football fanatic and so in service session I opted for football. The kids who came to our school cannot afford a school and that is why the camp was set up. Our main goal was to teach the kids some football skills with drills ,and play matches with them so that they get experience about football, teenagers about 10-15 years old were also there who knew football and have enthusiasm to move ahead in the sport.

In this CAS experience two strands were covered 1. Activity- Football and 2. Service- to teach the kids. The Learning Outcomes achieved are as follows-

LO1. I did identify my own strength which was my stamina and endurance and my weakness was that I did not have sufficient skills in football which I had to then start improving. It is always good to know about your weaknesses as you can always improve them and move further to excel that sport. And now because I know my weakness i can work on them and should try to make them my strength.

LO2. The challenge was getting more familiar with football and new tactics to play. I overcame that challenge as

Iwas guided by my friends and you need to have gesture skills as it helps you to play your strike and indicate other teammates. I got to know my capabilities by undertaking this challenge and now I am pleased  that I am aware of it. Undertaking new challenges imparts knowledge about the way we understand and act in the situation(challenge) which also gives opportunity to learn something from it and corrects us to move further. Learning new skills creates enthusiasm in your mind to keep moving further and also it will definitely become handy and you will soon start to use it in some day to day activities.

LO3. We all assembled in a group first and then started warm up exercises and the drills with the children and divided in teams to play matches. I procrastinate some things but then become consistent doing/learning them and get my hands organised for it before hand. Initiating was a bit difficult as the juniors were not coordinating with the seniors and they also had to follow us and teach the underprivileged kids as this will also improve them to develop their existing skills and become best at it. Yes because learning from past experiences teaches you how to act in the present situation and Which will now be easier. If you know how to plan and initiate then the CAS experience will run smoothly and less time consumption. Without planning you cannot initiate the CAS activity.

LO4. The difficult task was not to get lazy and come to school on weekends and we all had to be active for 2 hours on the field. We all had to be regular and not miss any service session. Yes because without any other teammates this activity would not had been taken place and these football sessions were for a good cause. It takes some time to get all things in place and so was I before I started the session I felt why should I go but then this was necessary and football is the sport I play. Being persistent in service session was not tough I gave my best every weekend so it was smooth. In every activity we do commitment, perseverance play an important role without that any activity could not be a success.

LO5. In the case of football my grade mates cooperate with everyone and that is also why working together is easy. Football is not a play for individuals it requires teamwork, for every strike any person in the team makes they all work collaboratively and score and we all did the same thing and were able to make proper judgements from it. Everyone was polite and helped each other that is the spirit that ignites when teamwork is in progress.

Conclusion-

The learner profile characteristics that are developed in this CAS experience are 1.Inquirers, 2.Knowledgeable, 3.Communicators, 4.Caring, 5.Balanced,and 6.Reflective.

This activity benefitted the underprivileged children and made them develop new skills and taught them teamwork and leading to collaborative skills development. The main part was day by day they all were getting good at the sport and followed everything. Service session was a success because of school and the children I saw their happy faces and they were happy to get this chance of playing the sport and because of them we all were pleased. Next time I should help someone who is anxious about activity and I will teach him with the same spirit as i did in the service session. This activity teaches me teamwork which will definitely be applied further in my life when I play a sport and in other tasks as well. I hope the kids will also apply the skills further in life.
