Our school took part in the “ schools sustainability challenge” in which we had to make a video depicting sustainable measures of development adopted by our school. Sustainability is one of the main environmental concern currently so as global citizens it is important for us to terminate any practices against the principles of sustainable development like overfishing and replace them with more environmentally friendly practices like solar energy. Such a video will not only help to spread awareness amongst the students but it will also help them in developing a broader understanding on this topic and this may encourage them to take small steps for sustainable development that can have a greater impact on the environment in long-term.
The process of video making was broken down into different steps. Starting from, listing down the necessary things to include. In Order to categorize the necessary things, we made a list of sustainable practices that our school adopts. As we had time boundations we could not include everything in the video so we mutually agreed on certain practices.the next step was to collect the data and pieces of evidence from different teachers. Once we had all the data it needed to be refined and edited. The final stage was to compile all the data and evidence collected. As there were 3 to 4 people involved in this process the work had to be divided.Working collaboratively was a huge advantage as each one of us could focus on our respective task this further increased the efficiency and quality of the task done by each of us. Seeing one’s teammates working with so much dedication motivated other members to do the same. Also, we reminded each other of the deadlines set by our supervisor and this helped us to finish our tasks on time.
This Cas experience definitely required a lot of commitment and perseverance. We had to come early in the morning to complete our tasks, to plan further and to ensure that each one of us is aware of one’s responsibilities and is doing the task willingly. In order to record the video, we had to go outside the school periphery in the scorching heat and shoot for hours. We also had to miss out on our ESS slots in order to complete the video. The key aspect which we kept in mind while shooting and making the video was to maintain our ethics. We did not enact anything purposely to make the video more impactful neither did we manipulate the data or the facts mentioned in the video to make the video look more attractive. We kept it real.
It is important for each citizen to incorporate as many sustainable practices as possible in their day to day life and make sustainable development their top priority commitment.
