Sports – Volleyball

Our school offers a range of sports to students so that they can get exposure to all sports and then they can make the best choice of sports for themselves.

PS (Personal Sports) consists of a mixture of cardiovascular, endurance, strength training and flexibility exercises that are designed to benefit the whole body for which our instructors try to look for the best training methods known to the fitness world.

Out of the different sports range, I like Yoga and Volleyball as a personal sport. I have enjoyed playing volleyball and have been practicing this sport for 3 years. However, I wished to polish my skills further for this sport and be a better player and thus choose this as my PS for this academic year.

Learning outcome 1 – Identify own strength and develop areas of growth

As I said that I enjoy playing volleyball, and playing it from past 3 years has made me good at it which means that passing the ball is easy for me. However, to play a game of it you need to know some techniques through which you can defeat your opponent and play giving the best you can.

Though I started playing it earlier, some of the skills need regular practice. Also, there are some skills like lifting and fingering which I have not yet learned which is my weakness; as in Volleyball, every player should know each and every skill of it because each player would be playing each position in the game at some or the other point of time. Therefore, this academic year I wanted to give my best and learn as much as I can.

This year in Volleyball, I sharpened my servicing skills and undertaking skills. I overcame my fear of ball and now I am not afraid of at least TRYING to pass the ball to the order side. Though I learned the basics of fingering, I still need a lot of practice to actually do it at the time of playing the game.

Volleyball is a competitive game and for getting selected in district, states or other higher level you need to know your strengths and weakness. God has not created every one equal. If some are good at something other may not be. However, a good player is someone who knows how and when to blend his/her strengths with his group in order to win the game. On the other side, it is also important to work on your weakness in order to change them into your strengths because, if not done it can be harmful to the team if the competitors got to know about it. Therefore, to be less vulnerable and be a successful player, one needs to know its strengths and weakness.

So in all, the activity was fun as with IB submissions on top, playing what I enjoy, definitely helped me distract myself from the hectic schedule and relax my mind. Also, I can now see the difference in my playing which has improved than the last time, which makes a feel really happy.
