Photography @ Surat Airport

DESCRIPTION

I visited Surat Airport in morning on 9th December to click pictures of the airport, the aircraft, and ATC. I am a beginner in photography and have to develop skills and learn to use more advanced DSLR’s and can reach the intermediate level. I clicked pictures of airplanes taking off and airplanes on the tarmac. I decided to click pictures in the morning because there were 3 arrivals and 4 departures, so it was a great time to capture the airplanes and the airport in my DSLR. The weather was good and I was able to take some good shots. In this CAS experience, two strands were covered Creativity and Activity.

Learning Outcomes achieved

LO1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I did find my strength in photography which was that I can take picturesque images in aviation and which are not tampered and kept original. This strength made me realize how my photos should be and what else can be developed to make it a perfect shot. The weakness was that I do not know how to use some functions in DSLR which was an obstacle and if I knew them the shots were very likely to be better. I am a beginner want to learn them and give my shots 100 %. And now that I am aware of it I will learn and develop my own intellectual for photography and continue to improve my skills. If we know our weaknesses we are able to assess them and correct them to be cognizant of it next time. Knowing my strengths I will be able to become the best at that particular task and which will boost my passion towards photography.

LO2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

The challenges one has to face if the person is a beginner in photography is the shots that they take has difficulties because we don’t know that where there are the best focus and the light to take an adequate shot. The experience was challenging for me because when I was taking an image of an A320 aircraft which was taking off I was not able to capture them as the aircraft speed/knots was high it was flashing out and that was challenging, taking images of a rapidly moving object is herculean. When I was clicking the images I made sure that my hands are not shivering and the focus is on the aircraft and the sunrise and after multiple attempts, and trying that the aircraft does not go out of sight I forthwith took a pic and was successful in it. From this CAS experience, I got to learn the skill that when you take a pic you should focus on not only your main component but other components like in my scenario with the aircraft taking off I captured some part of the airport, sunrise, and the pine trees. It is salient that you should keep learning new skills as they will certainly help you in your further goals/profession which will elucidate you and that you are good at it. Learning new skills means having a good amount of creativity and knowledge at the same time.

LO3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

I was a little nervous because photography was difficult for me, however, I modified my DSLR and prepared myself for some pics. Initiating this CAS experience was tough because I had to take permission from the senior manager of the airport because the Airports Authority of India ( AAI ) has prohibited photography at the airport. I had to request him and he allowed me because I was doing this for educational purposes. It is important that before starting any activity or work a person should have a plan ready because in future it will be easy for him to execute things in a right way and this will lead to initializing that experience which will be organized.

Conclusion.

The learner profile attributes that were obtained from this CAS experience are

  1. Inquirers
  2. Principled
  3. Thinkers
  4. Risk-takers
  5. Balanced
  6. Reflective

The highlight was that I have to further improve my skills and learn the skills of photographers who are leading and weaknesses should now gradually convert into my strengths.

I was successful in the completion of the task and was able to take some good images. This motivated me to explore different options in photography and pick it up for further strengthening. I identified some functions of DSLR and  tested my photography skills. If I do this activity again I will come prepared with better photography skill and some more supportive equipment.

Embracing everything together this experience made me realize where am I standing in photography and a huge room for improvement.

Here are some photos which I took from my SONY DSLR.
