Reflection of the CAS trip

We were told that we are going for a CAS trip but I did not know where we were going so then I researched and I got to know that we are going to a village called Savarkundla which is near the Gir forest and the motive for going there was to build a cover to a open well there (though there are still 1000’s of them there) so that when the lions or any animal who moves around that area at night, can avoid falling inside and die because we were told that almost 1 lions die every month because of falling in the well. The experience was really different to any trip I had gone to. I learned new skills such as welding and cutting the metal rods. Making the cover for the well was not an easy task and it involved a lot of hard work.We all had to sit in scorching heat to create the cover as the electricity supply in that area was limited and on that the supply was supposed to be during the noon so all were present there during the construction of the well cover.

I also understood the hardships and the problems that the people who do this every day go through because working in the heat is very difficult cause there was a point in the day when all of us were dehydrated and wanted to give up on this task.

The construction was divided into two days and the third day was kept for going to the well to cover it.Then once we had finished making the cover our agenda was to go to the well and cover it so we had to trek for 3 kilometers and then we reached the well where we found the well for which we had built the cover and then we had covered the well and all of us were happy that now there are chances we also save lives of few animals in that area. The way back to the bus was satisfactory but a treacherous one because all of were loaded in a tractor and moving in it was pretty difficult and fun. The learning outcomes that were covered during this project are learning outcome 2, 5 and 6. First I thought learning outcome 1 would suit better but once?I was done with the activity I realized instead of LO1, LO2 suited the activity better.  Learning outcomes 2 is covered as whatever we did was new to us and also a challenge for us to complete the whole construction in just 2 days. Also, we had developed new skills of cutting metals rods and welding them. Learning outcome 5 was covered as we all had to work as a team to make this a successful project. We also learned collaboration as we had to cooperate with each other and all work effectively to make it a success. We also covered learning outcome 6 because the issue we were working upon is a global issue and saving lions has been a campaign for a long time globally.
