Performing in and Hosting Kalakriti Arts Competition 2017

Music has always been an integral part of my life and without it I cant pass much of my day, I listen to music in the gym, out of the gym, coming to school, during school, after school, at home, while doing my homeworking, studying for my exams, and when I was told that I was invited to co-host our schools biggest arts competition in september, then I was absolutley thrilled, I couldnt have been happier, and on top of that iwas a lso given the privelige to perform before the announcment of the results! Although this came at a price, and we had to work hard for that price, throughout the course of this CAS activity, I inculcated the following learning outcomes to my work.

  • Initiate and plan a CAS experience

The first step was to collect all the necessary information about the event, and how we were to go about things, so planning was essential if we were to have a success during the show, furthermore the bigger task was to decide a song for the ending, it had to be something that would end with a bang! so we had to scrape out any slow mellow songs, we ended up planning a song ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ by Guns n Roses, so overall planning for this activity went down quite smoothly as there were no conflicting ideas in my group, and the members of my band were quite compromising and passionate towards learning new music.

  • Commitment to and perseverance

Music is something were if you don’t commit to it and if you aren’t passionate about the field, then you cannot succeed in it, so the first thing that I required from my band members was total focus and perseverance to succeed in the performance, and I also wanted full commitment from them so that we could work as hard as we could and make sure that the end result was equal to how the artist recorded the track! I had received full confidence in my partners, and so we worked hours on end both during and after school to make sure that we absolutely aced the song, we used to take permission from our teachers to put in those extra hours of work so in order to fully escalate the level of energy and performance to the max.

  • Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

As said before for this project I was working in  a trio with two people whom I knew very well, and we were good friends, so there were no issues of any sort of conflict arising during the practices or during any discussions, yes there were a few times when we all had disagreements, but in the end, we made sure that all of us sorted our problems and worked with open minds and collaboratively, as we were representatives of our school during this event, all three of us had a set goal in mind that we shall not make any faults, and that we shall practice and work together in order to make this a success. The three of us always practiced together and always made sure that we gave constructive criticism to each other, this helped each of us grow in our own ways and also helped us to ensure that the other doesn’t let any mistake slip by

To sum it up, the course of 1 week that went along in learning, synchronizing and fine-tuning a song and an entire line up of hosting between three people was a miracle that took place, but behind the miracle was a very dedicated team of three who were just nuts about the music they listened to and about how what when where and why they performed what they performed, it was a privilege working with them and sharing those minutes on stage rocking our hearts out.
