Math Trivia is an event held to testify learners’ knowledge in Mathematics. It is an inter-house event held every year at our school for grade 7 to grade 9. There are 2 rounds in total. One is the selection round where students who score the highest in the math multiple question quiz, is selected as a final participant. 4 members are selected for every 4 houses of our school. Second is the final round where the school houses compete against each other.
This year teachers held the Selection round while the final round was to be organised by the student. I was interested in the event and thus had given my name to organise the event.
Overall it was a good experience to organise the event.
Learning outcome 1 – Identify own strength and develop areas of growth
I am good at maths, so making questions was not difficult for our group of 3 members. Also, I am good at researching, which altogether makes it easier for us to search interesting questions for students.
Seeing this particular activity, I don’t think I felt that I had any weakness. Or I felt I can’t do something.
It felt good knowing that I did not have areas in this activity where I had to put in extra efforts, which means this activity was helping me to sharpen my skills. Overall it was a good experience as it has enhanced my leadership skills.
It is important for us to know our strengths as it helps to know and accept yourself and stay motivated and energized at work in hand. While weakness helps you to shape yourself in better you. Life is all about improvement and one needs to know the areas of improvement in his/her life. Also, we don’t realize our strengths until we come face to our weaknesses.
As rightly said, ” True success lies in knowing your weakness and playing to your strengths.”
Learning outcome 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Planning for the rounds which we would include in the competition was easy because of Ruchita ma’am. She gave us some ideas for the type of rounds we could include and also being a part of it as a participant last year, had made it all the more clear about the types of rounds we should include.
As planning was done easily, initiating wasn’t a difficult task as well. Undertaking this activity, made me realise that having been part of an event earlier is of great help when you are organizing the event, showing how sometimes experience can be useful.
Talking about being organised, so I am a well-organised person, who likes things to be systematic, which we used while numbering the rounds decided for the presentation.
It is important to know how to plan and initiate activities because it serves as a way in which deadlines can be met. It helps to be productive rather than being a procrastinator.
Learning outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
It is easy for me to work in groups as I feel that it completes the work in less time. Also working in groups helps to improve communication and social skills, which is a must skill needed for anyone who wants to become successful.
Vaidehi, Khushi and I had already divided the rounds, for which we will make the questions, so it was easy to complete the presentation. Also, we three are quite responsible, meaning that we know our responsibilities, therefore, reminders weren’t needed.
Also, we three already had a good understanding of each other which resulted in a strength of our group and made us complete the presentation before time with the needed quality.
We already had deadlines and exams lined up after the event, so we had to study and give time for that also; that is why team working was important so that the work should be completed in the minimum time.
