AS- Drums

For the academic year of 2017-18 I decided to learn a new musical instrument, drums, where I would give 50 minutes for 1 day every week as we had 1 slot for this every week. I decided to do this activity in school because the school has proper equipment and trainer to help me learn this instrument. the plan was to learn the basics first and then move on to more complex methods like songs, but during this activity I was able to par the first step which was the basics and was unable to progress to more complex techniques due to lack of time. The learning outcomes in focus would be 1,2,3&4

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

the main advantage I had during this activity was my reach and was able to reach all parts of the drum set with ease, but the area for growth in this segment was the hand and eye coordination with a bit of leg coordination, to counter this me and my coach decided that I do certain routine practices with a fake drum (made out of rubber) and 2 sticks which helped me increase the lacking hand and eye coordination.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

The biggest challenge for me was getting familiar to the new instrument as I had never had hands on experience with anything like this and to get accustomed to it my trainer had few exercise in mind that he wanted me to do before I learn how to play it.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

As mentioned before me and my trainer planned a full course with every step getting more and more complex this would help me get used to the setup of the drums and get the feel of how the instrument operates. this technique would build muscles memory which would then get me ready to learn new and complex things like full songs or tunes.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

We had dedicated slots for this activity 1 slot every which I tried to not skip due to other work load, but we did have to miss few slots due to CAS meetings and orientations, other than that I was committed to the activity and gave it all I had and tried to learn a new instrument.
