Service session

Sharing the skills I have gained and developed is one of the things I really enjoy, and service season gave me an opportunity for it, helping and training underprivileged children in not only sports but in Visual arts, Dance, Drama. My goal for the session was to develop the skills like passing, shooting, and dribbling of the people I train. Service sessions are sessions organized by our school in which skilled people like us help underprivileged children to improve or to introduce the game.

The Learning outcomes, (LO) I achieved were LO2, LO4, LO5, and LO7.

L02- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process- There were some challenges which I faced while doing my service session, like the people we were training were not opening up, feeling shy and we also faced some language barrier because some of them don’t know any other language except Gujurati. Talking with children helped me to increase our communication level and helping them to feel more comfortable and other challenge was fullied because I know how to speak Gujarati.

LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences-The service sessions took place on the weekends so we had to make sure that we manage our academic tasks beforehand and come to school on weekends. So for three weekends, we had to sacrifice our sleep and wake up early for three weeks continuously but it was all worth it in the end.

LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively- Working with different people is something I believe I enjoy and can easily delegate work or take work. I believe I was able to do work with my colleagues and successfully completed all the things required from me. Also working collaboratively made each task easy and more effective.

LO7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions. As the children were small we need to make sure that we explain things slowly to them and our tone is always polite and welcoming. As this children did not belong to a good background, we don’t have to treat them as they are less than any of us as in unfortunate. So taking our actions and words into consideration before speaking was crucial.
