Since I acquired my driving license, I find myself avidly using my two wheeler for day to day traveling to places. Throughout these years of traveling I have grown to know a lot about my vehicle and since my vehicle is currently 10 years old and running, I have acquired a lot of knowledge about maintaining my vehicle. I knew that it is recommended to replace air filters after the vehicle crosses 15000 kilometers and hence I decided to replace the filter of my vehicle as to reduce the amount of harmful gases that are emitted from the exhaust.
Learning outcomes Achieved:
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Since I was not aware of how to dismantle a two wheeler, a lot of the process involved trial and error method to understand how the two wheeler was built and how would I be able to access the air filter box. It emerged as a challenge as there were many hidden screws and nuts in unreachable areas that I wasn’t aware about and hence I had a hard time figuring out the dismantling process.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Planning was an integral part of my activity. Since it was already necessary for my two wheeler to have the air filter replaced, I felt that it would be fun and intriguing to learn more about my vehicle and try to do the job by myself. Since I new that the task would consume a lot of time, I planned it on the weekend when I did not need to go anywhere so that I could work on the task in one attempt and complete it.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Since I had planned to complete the task in one attempt, I had to make sure that I had every required tool available for the task, including the new air filter, so I took to finding a parts dealer first and with the aid of the internet, I was able to find one in my area of residence and start working on the task. The task was very tedious as I was trying to undo parts which were machine fitted during manufacturing and additionally, the heat too was tremendously troublesome during the process. However, I stayed committed to the task and completed it without losing focus.
LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Since pollution is one the major issues that plagues the modern world, with vehicles being primary contributors, it is necessary that we reflect upon our actions and try to eliminate them by providing our contribution towards saving the environment. It is necessary for us to maintain our own vehicles such that they do not violate emission regulations and function properly. By this activity I tried to do my part in the contribution towards our environment by attempting to reduce the emissions from my personal vehicle.
This activity was very interesting as it was a good hands-on task for me. It helped me understand how our vehicles are built, how they work and also how we take them for granted for the service they provide us with. I got to know how with time we should keep our vehicles maintained for proper functioning and environmental concerns so that it is beneficial for both entities. It also helped me acquire the confidence so that I wouldn’t hesitate on taking up projects like this in the future. Overall, It was a fun learning experience.
