CAS Project

As a part of my CAS project, I organized a Football Tournament with two of my classmates on 4th March 2018. It was a 5 v/s 5 tournament held at Turf Sports Surat. The name of the tournament was NEW GEN FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT. Eight teams participated in this Under 21 tournament. A team from ONGC won the tournament and was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of eight thousand rupees

The following LO’s were achieved:

LO-2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

This was the first time my friends and I had organized such an event, so we faced a lot of challenges.

  1. Making sure that our advert or the poster reaches a wide audience was a big challenge. We tried to spread information about our tournament across different schools through Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp and word of mouth.
  2. Many teams were unwilling to participate in our tournament because of the age category. They thought that it was going to be really difficult for them to compete against older players as the age limit was 21yrs. Because of this reason we had to advertise even more. We contacted our seniors and asked them to spread the word about this tournament in their colleges and also friend circle.
  3. We had completely forgotten about hiring a referee and we arranged for one at the last moment. As we called the referee at the last moment, he was charging more and we had to negotiate and convince him.
  4. We had to postpone the tournament by a week because a big marathon event was taking place near our venue on the same day, and there were chances of players not being able to reach the venue due to roadblocks and diversions. So we informed all the teams and the referees and booked the turf again for a later date, at the last moment.

LO-3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

Planning is an important aspect of life. It helps an individual to set their goals and mainly offers them directions on how to move on further. While initiating is similarly important because until you don’t take an initiative you won’t achieve the results you desired.

We organized ourselves by dividing the work. We met after school to plan the event. We did things like preparing a list of possible teams, possible sponsors, managing our cost etc. Initiating the event was quite difficult as compared to planning the event. At the onset, completing the registration of the teams turned out to be very difficult Confirmation and collection of registration money took more time than we had anticipated. On the day of the tournament, few teams were delayed. We had to continuously follow up with them and also had to pay extra for the additional time needed to complete the matches. This activity, however, has helped me to improve my social skills by helping me to communicate more when needed. Also, it had helped me to manage my time in a more effective way. This communication and time management experience has enriched me and I can plan and execute more effectively in the future.
