It was 3 weeks prior to our school’s Inter-school Arts competition – Kalakriti, when I was given this opportunity to sing in a band. Sir told me that if you want to perform, make a band and we’ll give you guys the stage. I had always been reminding sir from the beginning of the year how badly I wanted to sing in public. I asked some friends around and a band was formed. The final members were :
Nandita Goyal ( Me ) – Vocals
Aryan Khemka – Lead Guitarist
Arya Shah – Drums
Divyansh vakharia – Lead and rhythm
Jeet Pathak ( Sir ) – Base
Soon, we decided to sing ‘Sweet child o’mine’ by GunsNRoses. We literally practiced everyday and seemed to pull it out pretty well. Below are some pictures of us.
The main reason why I feel good after doing this project is that I overcame my stage-fear to an extent. Initially, when I started singing in Grade 8, I couldn’t even hit the notes properly, but now giving a band performance feels really good and proud in a way. Although, if given more time, I could have prepared the same song much better and efficiently.
Many learning outcomes were achieved by me and my band during this project. First one, ‘ Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.’ as I identified I am good at singing, but need to work on my performance. Second one, ‘Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.’ as I took the challenge of performing on stage and overcame my stage-fear. Third one, ‘ Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.’ as here I along with my band members and Sirs went from choosing the song to actually performing it. Fourth one, ‘Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience.’ as we used to meet during our breaks, free slots and even outside school to practice together and the last one, ‘Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.’ Â as we realized that we missed out on our studies a bit and need to work on balancing things out.
Therefore, my experience was incredible and I look forward to more of such performances. Thank you.
