Farewell for the batch of 2018

DESCRIPTION

It is time to say goodbye to the batch of 2016 – 2018 who are our seniors and this event is proposed for them. The event will be consisting of all of the memories of the time that they spent together. Our batch decided the Farewell theme as Movie night/Bollywood night which means that the recollection of the time that they have spent together which will be portrayed by our batch through different videos which are the compilation of their past experiences. My job was to prepare invitations for the batch and other decorations for the event which I contributed.

Learning Outcomes achieved

LO1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I had to select which department I wanted to go in, so I decided the invitation and decoration section. I have made approx five invitations for different events and knew what idea should our group implement which will be parallel with the theme, so it looks eye-catching. The design was provided by the opinions of team members, and there was collaboration amongst all making the invitation. In this CAS experience, my strength was the invitation and decoration that I did in the room with other team members and the area of growth was teamwork for me as there was a communication gap between the members which let to last-minute completion of the work.

LO2Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

The biggest challenge was the decoration of the venue. After the successful completion of the invitation, I entirely dwelled in the decorations helping my fellow members. The decoration took most of the time we had many things to put on the ceiling and make it look like a theatre. The outside of the venue we had to hang the “ILMAISU” which was the name for the farewell. With the help of each other, we all worked fast and updated everyone that the particular task is done to ensure that the work goes smoothly. This has taught me how effective communication takes place in any event or task and accomplish it.

LO3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

In my opinion time planning is very important for initiating a CAS experience as it teaches you how to work according to the schedule and complete the tasks on time which will eliminate any last minute rush. Keeping everyone together and motivated is also vital to initiate any activity as enthusiastic minds work the best at different tasks and this will lead to a successful set up of any activity and event.

LO4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

Being part of Invitations and decorations team, I had to attend all the meetings which will discuss every member update on what they have done so far. These meetings were regularly followed by me. To make an event successful, you have to commit your time, mind into that task which will lead you to the goal. I did procrastinate a few things which were not acceptable by other team members, but I did that task as soon as possible to meet the deadline. Hard work and smart work will lead you to your accomplishment.

LO5. Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively.

Working collaboratively is the reason an event is successful. Without teamwork organisation and planning of any event is not possible. By working collaboratively with people they exchange ideas, knowledge sharing which develops the intellectual of any person. I got to know my mistakes with my friends, so further I know my mistakes and not repeat them. Teamwork in our farewell was essential. Each others support makes us do the work correctly and enthusiastically.

LO7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

At one point when the other team was making and editing videos, the song which was playing in the background was inappropriate which our teachers told after analysing the whole video, and this affected as inappropriate songs are not allowed in the school. Another consequence of our action was that some people were not utilising resources instead they were playing with them. This was a waste of resource, and after some time it affected us as the school’s stationery had no stock left for those particular resources, and at last, we all were suffering. This taught everyone as well as me about how not taking anything for granted and not wasting anything.

The learner profile attributes that were obtained from this CAS experience are

  1. Inquirers
  2.  Thinkers
  3. Communicators
  4. Principled
  5. Open-minded
  6. Risk-takers
  7. Balanced
  8. Reflective

I was successful in the completion of the task and was able to make our senior’s memories alive on their few days left in school. This motivated me to explore different ideas for invitation and decoration for further strengthening my skill.

Embracing everything together this experience made me realise where am I standing with my skills and there is a considerable room for improvement.
