Basketball

Basketball is a sport which is a stress buster for me. No matter how stressed I am when I step onto the court I forget everything else and just try to enjoy myself. Due to academics, I have not dedicated much time to it but I want to improve my left-hand dribble and stop shots.

By doing this activity I have achieved the following learning outcomes:

LO1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
In Basketball my strength is dribbling and shooting whereas my weakness is that during offense I don’t take lay-ups so I have to try and take as many lay-ups in the game as possible.

LO2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
The challenges faced during the playing basketball is that if there are people who are taller than me then it is not easy to score a basket, I need to give them a fake in order to score. This highlights the importance of thinking skills where your physical strength is necessary but mental strength is more useful in this case. The other challenge is to give suitable passes to team players in order to avoid turnovers. We play games without dribbling with just passing to develop our passing skills and hence collaborative skills is very crucial in basketball.

LO4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
You need a lot of stamina to play basketball and especially a person who is a controller needs to run around a lot so stamina is a must but the perseverance is what helps me to keep on playing even when I am exhausted. Additionally,  improving my skills to become a better player is what thrives me keep on playing the game.

LO5-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
Everyone has a different strength so we can always learn from each other. Basketball is a team game so if one person plays well and others don’t support him/her then it is not possible to win. The team is only wins when we play the game with synergy.

Also, Basketball helps me to implement the following learner profiles:

Principled- You have to treat everyone with respect even if they are your opponents. You have to act with integrity and honesty in terms of the false from your side.
Balanced- Basketball requires you to be physically fit but at the same time, you also have to use your mind and play smart.
Risk Taker- It is essential to approach uncertainty with determination because it is always worth trying. You have to be determined and do whatever it takes even if it is out of your comfort zone.
