Cricket Night Tournament

On the day of our school night out this year, our school planned a night tournament which was supposed to be held from 9 pm onwards. We have a night tournament every time on our night outs. This time, I took up the responsibility to organise the Cricket game along with one of my friends. During the preparation for this match, we had to do a lot of planning to adjust the timings with other sports. We also had to consider a number of other aspects.

L1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

During the planning of this event, we worked in a group of three people. So it was important for us to make sure that each of us managed the things we were good at. We tried to distribute the work according to the strength of each person. I pose good leadership skills, therefore I was responsible to manage the event. By identifying my strengths, I tried to work more efficiently. I was responsible to convey our messages to the management and take permissions for all the actions we wanted to execute. I was also responsible to make sure we were prepared with everything that was required. So basically, I had to recheck all the preparations and make sure everything was on track for the event. During this CAS experience, I was able to identify areas of growth. One of the most important was time management. I frequently missed the deadlines and because of that, I realised how important it was to manage the time efficiently. This caused a delay in our work. So I identified that I need to manage my time in a more efficient way by making a timetable and sticking to it. Also, I was in charge of the formulation of the teams and the collection of responses, to be honest as we had gotten cricket added on a later stage a lot of work happened off the internet so that we could speed the process.

L3. Initiate and plan a CAS experience

To execute this event in a very smooth way, it was important for us to make a plan and execute it properly. We sat together before we started any preparations and talked out the entire plan. We took each other’s inputs and tried to come up with a better plan. This required 2 weeks of planning. Initially, we started off with taking all the permissions from the management so that later on we won’t face that problem. Once we had all the permissions required, we started on working for the further requirements such as floodlights, speakers and snacks. It was difficult to manage everything in such a short period of time, however, we were able to get everything done because we worked together in a group. We also planned a session of auction where the captains had to select their team through a process of auctioning. It was a different experience for me and I really enjoyed hosting the auction. On the day of the event, we distributed the responsibilities. I was responsible to get everyone on the ground on time and start the game without any delays. We were able to execute the event very conveniently because of planning the event thoroughly.

L7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

We had to make sure that we planned this event ethically. We made mixed teams of both the genders. We tried to show equality which brought out our ethics. The players were charged for this tournament, so we tried to price it appropriately by not making any profits out of it because this was just an activity where everyone could have fun. We didn’t prioritize to earn any money. This way we were ethical towards the players. We also respected every player’s opinion while we were planning this event. This is how we came up with the idea of auctioning. We were respectful towards the ideas of our participants and by doing that ethically, we made sure that this event was successful and that every participant enjoyed it. These are a few of the ways we recognised and considered the ethics of our choices and actions.
