SAVE LIONS

We had a Save Lions CAS trip to the village Savarkundla in the Amreli district . This CAS trip to Savarkundla turned out to be a spine-tingling experience for me. This was my first trip to a village. So, Savarkundla is a village which faces a lot of complaints of lions getting injured/dying by falling into the wells as a solution for which I got to contribute my part in making the metal cover. I always had this notion of welding, cutting and grinding to be dangerous and risky activities but when you yourself get at that position of doing these things, you get to know that they are not at all dangerous but they involve some sort of techniques which once you learn it is not at all difficult. I got to learn these techniques. Not only the techniques but I had the privilege of picking up a lot of skills and it developed a sort of interest in me. This activity covered all the three strands of CAS , Creativity because I got to explore a totally unfamiliar field , Action because this activity demanded physical exertion and Service because through this I could serve the village in helping them with a problem faced there a lot .

Now every time when I will see welding/cutting / grinding being done I will have that interest and would also want to see if there is any other technique being used. I had never thought of learning these things but now when I learned them it helped me develop my skills in these fields and also helped me to identify my strengths and weakness while working with these kind of activities. Meeting the requirements of this activity called for a commitment of being disciplined and following the rules so that the cover is made on time and also that these manufacturing activities does not harm us . This activity was to be done collaboratively by the whole grade, so that accommodated me to work in a group; divide the activities among everyone, let everyone work and to wait for my chance patiently.

The learning outcomes I achieved through this activity were to demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken – I took the challenge of doing welding , grinding and cutting which I thought to be scary and difficult before but after doing it myself I got to know that it is not at all difficult and this helped me develop my skills in these manufacturing processes , show commitment and perseverance – Making this cover definitely needed commitment as following the instructions of the experts and completing all the activities on time was very important and our grade did follow the instructions which served as the main reason for the completion of making the cover , Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively – This task demanded teamwork profusely which was achieved by the grade by coordinating with the people who taught us the processes and also taught me that alone we can do so little but together we can do so much as we had divided ourselves into groups and each group was assigned different activities which helped us to complete the work on time , Demonstrate engagement with the issues of global significance – Savarkundla is a village in our own state yet none of us was knowing this problem prevalent there so this activity bolstered not only me but all our grade to understand this significant issue and contribute our part in helping solve the problem , Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions – During this activity there were some moral principles which governed the conducting of this activity , we have the responsibility of saving our nature and its habitat in a totally ethical way ,this activity helped me to recognize and develop a concern for safety of the environment in a way that it does not harm any other aspect of nature .

Not only the work part of the trip but living in a village for 3 days, seeing the lifestyle of the people there , sleeping in a tree house under the million stars , travelling in a tractor and experiencing the village life for 3 days will always be a treat for me .
