Savarkundla Trip

We went to Savarkundla from 8th to 10th September where we basically made a cover for a well so that we could take an initiative to save the lions. Savarkundla is a very small town with forest near by, in the forest there are about 10,000 uncovered wells due to which animals fall in the well during night time and die especially asiatic lions. Every year 6-8 deaths of asiatic lions are reported due to falling in the well during night.

Our main objective was to make a sustainable cover. It was a three day activity where we learned a lot of new things ,we tried our hands at cutting, welding, hammering and polishing.

This activity helped me in achieving the following learning outcomes:

  1. I demonstrated that challenges that been undertaken developing new skills as I never tried welding, cutting or hammering earlier. All these activities were new to me. On the first day we were taught cutting and I was really afraid of it as the machine had sparks coming out of it but I still tried my hands on the activity though the fact  that it was with sir (from the organisation we went with) but then I explored it and learned that there was nothing to be afraid of and hence tried doing it as many times as I could. Next thing taught to us was hammering which I tried and actually did not find very difficult. The next day we were taught welding which was pretty difficult for me at the start by then I started enjoying that activity and carried it for as long as I could. On the third day we were only supposed to fix the cover. Experiencing all these activities was very new to me and was something not included in my comfort zone.
  2. I was committed and perceived towards the activity as I always took the opportunity to work whenever I could. On the first day our schedule was extremely delayed due to unavailability of electricity, we were supposed to start working at around 1 pm but due to delay we started working at around 7 pm but even after that I was committed to the activity because I knew it was for a good reason and I was also excited about learning all those new activities.
  3. During the three day trip we all definitely demonstrated the benefits of working collaboratively as our schedule was extremely delayed the very first day and all of us together managed to complete the work on time and even the next two days we helped each other so that we could accomplish our goals together.
  4. This activity was tied to issues of global significance as the main aim of the activity was to save animals and extinction of animals if a global issue. The activity was a step towards saving animals and spreading the awareness about this particular issue.
