Savarkundla trip

Description

It was to create a metal cover for the well to save the animals from falling into the well while they look for food and water. To make the cover the resources need to be collected and cutting of rods, welding the metal rods to attach it to the frame then the polishing of the frames has to be done at last the installation of it on the well. In this CAS activity, all the three strands were achieved which is creativity, activity and service.

The goals for this Trip

The goals for this activity was to achieve a sense of accomplishment and working together which is teamwork, learning new physical constructive skills, getting to know the place and the people living out there, what is the situation of animals in that habitat, what incidents that the villagers have come across. What are the cases they come across in the country and what steps are to be taken to prevent these kinds of incidents?

The learning outcomes achieved in this CAS activity.

There are 6 learning outcomes which are L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, and L6 are achieved here in this CAS experience.

L1 which is Identify own strengths and weakness. I identified my weakness which was that i do not easily mix up with people and so the teamwork was difficult for me and my strength was that I was doing the constructive tasks assigned to me properly and completing them. It was an accomplishment for me that i was then aware of my flaws and how to deal with them. I think that every person when knows his strength and weakness he/she is able to work upon it and tries to improve them and make it better.

It is always better to know the people around you and interacting with them will increase the sportsmanship of your’s with people around you.

L2 which is to demonstrate the challenges that have been undertaken, developing new skills in process. The challenge was that the welding and cutting task as they were not getting accurately filled up and had to repeat it again and try it till it does not fill up. Because as I am not a professional in that task so does not come out perfectly at once needs patience to do it. I have not done this work previously because did not have any tasks related to it and so was not knowing. To overcome this i tried doing welding again and again till the gap of the rods does not fill up. Now i definitely have some experience with me which i will be able to use it next time when going somewhere else to do the same experience. Undertaking new challenges teaches you to learn something new everytime and it will be with you forever when you move ahead. By learning new skills you get the knowledge of everything around you and maybe on different topic.

L3 which is Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. To get myself in right direction I had to plan it and then move ahead to further process and in that also I  have to first think. There is a structure that you are following. Planning was not difficult but in initiating that idea you have to first seek guidance of others and then move ahead with all the planning you have done. I do not think that planning and initiating will become easier in the future because everything you do needs practice can’t just come and does miracles you have to try and try to become the best at it. It is just that you have the idea but when you don’t implement it it is nothing but just a piece of paper to be thrown away.

L4 which is Show commitment to and perseverance in the CAS experiences. You have given a time limit to complete the task assigned to you and so commitment in punctuality is necessary to complete the task. It is your hard work and brains that is need to be dedicated to complete the work. It is not as you sometimes just be lazy and dont want to do the work and cannot be persisted in that.

L5 which is Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Sometimes difficult as i might get frustrated if the person does not listen to me and does his/her own things. The importance of teamwork was that the frame or the cover for the well might not had completed if the people did not help each other.

The last and the final learning outcome for this CAS activity is-

L6 which is Demonstrate engagements with issues of global significance. The issue was the increase in the number of deaths of lions falling into the well, this issue is of global significance because the number of lions in every country is decreasing because in most of the cases the asiatic lions fall into the well when they are thirsty. In gujarat there is a national park which is Gir located near from Savarkundla and lions are migrating from there to the villages nearby in search of food and live there. I never had any idea about these incidents happening and so investigated it going out there in the village.

Conclusion

We were successful in installing the cover on the well and were able to save lions and other animals from falling into it. Here are some evidence as pictures and videos.

This activity did bring a sense of accomplishment to me and i was happy that i was part of it to do service to the society and protecting the animals.

Teamwork will later be with my universities colleagues and in future in business.

By spreading awareness about this issue this will influence more and more people and make them also serve the society.
