Website making for IGCSE IM

For this CAS activity, my classmates and I came up with an idea of making a Website which is a perfect package for the IGCSE’s International Mathematics’ students. During our IGCSEs, we faced trouble finding resources for this particular subject. Hence, we thought it would be quite helpful for the future IGCSE students if they could find all the resources needed at one place itself. Another aspect of doing such a thing was that it might turn out to be a really useful site since the information and tips would come from students instead of professors which would create a unique platform as the perspective is new and quite relatable.

Our main motive is to pass on our knowledge which we attained during the two years of our IGCSE’s. To do so, we divided the topics amongst the four of us and then we also made videos of all the important functions of the GDC and when to use them. In addition to it, we made a few videos where we showed how particular questions were solved in each chapter. Our goal is to make it an ideal site so the other students don’t face the problems which we did. In order to do this, we will keep updating the site with new resources and make it more user-friendly through the feedback which we receive.

For this CAS activity to be a success, all four of us had to do things sincerely and stay committed to it. We were bewildered while dividing our work as we didn’t want it to get divided unequally. However, we all mutually stood up and took as many responsibilities as one could. Our project went on smoothly at first but as the school’s assignments started to over flood our schedules, we faced difficulties in completing our shares of work and meeting the set deadlines. So, we all decided to put a hold on the work and resumed it in our vacations which proved to be a good time to work. We all had our weaknesses and that’s when working collaboratively turned out to be helpful as some of us had more knowledge in coding and IT and some had better management skills so, we helped each other with things. One of us would run check the grammar while the other would make sure all the work was being done on time, etc.

We did have to keep ourselves motivated as this wasn’t something which could have been done in a jiffy. We realised this when we got all the material ready and were putting it on the site. Uploading the content didn’t turn out to be as easy as we thought it would be. There was a lot of formatting to be done and we got stuck at times and had to do some research about it and find ways to work things out.  But we knew it wasn’t going to be done until we could actually see our website fully functioning. Hence, there was no question for us to leave things midway. It wouldn’t have made sense if we got all the things to be uploaded on the website ready and then didn’t put it on the site. We had to have patience and work harder to get things done.

During this CAS experience, I developed a lot of IT related skills and I also made really good friends with my classmates with whom otherwise I wouldn’t have had communicated. I also visited a lot of other websites to get ideas and understandings about mathematical concepts which made me appreciate their work. I left appreciation comments on a few websites which motivated the owners of that pages. I felt really ecstatic while doing this work as I was in some way contributing to the global educating society. Kids from around the world would be benefited from this website and would learn things which otherwise they might not have had understood. Many of my friends and family acknowledged what I was doing and it gave me personal satisfaction that I was being generous to others and making a good use of my time and knowledge.
