Surat Student Parliament 2

I attended Surat Student Parliament 2 in Auro University on 3rd September 2017.

I played the role of Media Manager, in which I was a Photojournalist. The event was of 1 day, is comprised of 3 roles.

  • House Member
  • Campaign Manager
  • Media Manager

House members are debaters, who debate behalf of their parties with other parties on different issues, some national and some international.

Campaign managers try to promote their parties by making posters and other stuff which they present at the closing ceremony.

Media managers comprise of photojournalist, reporters, and cartoonist.

They are then segregated into news agencies of their own, in which they have to be the best agency, collaborate with one of the parties of house member and campaign manager. We need to give live news on social media accounts (twitter, Facebook) and try to have the greatest stories throughout the event.

I was a photojournalist, had to click photos which had its own words. I need to click photos of parties with embarrassing movements and upload them on social media.

Learning Outcomes

Learning outcome 1(Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth):-

I was able to develop photography by attending SSP as I got a lot of tips on clicking perfect pictures by my friends there. Also this time I had to click photos, for our news agency. It gave me a new challenge which was not to click good pics, but get embarrassing pics of others and publish them.Due to clicking good pics as a habit, it was quite difficult to click photos which are bad.  But after our lunch break, I was able to click embarrassing photos. This resulted in a new development in my skills. One of the strengths that I discovered was writing poems, during the event I helped my peers in writing some good quotes and poems for twitter battle.

Learning outcome 2(Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills):-

By working in a simulation of a news agency was tough, even if it was for a day, we had so many deadlines, like we had to continuously update social media because of other agencies. We were running around the college to click pictures, taking interviews, and getting great stories. After the event I tended to communicate more better with people as I interviewed many in SSP.

In between, we had moments where we were criticized by other agencies on social media by a photo, and so we took the advantage of the situation and then used the photo to our own advantage.
