Service Session

Our School has came up with a brilliant idea of doing a Service Session in which underprivileged children were brought in the school and were given choices to do many activities like football, art, craft, etc. We seniors had the job to monitor the juniors who were teaching the children. The project concentrates on making a better and caring environment for the future generation which are to come.As our mission statement states ¨Nurturing leaders through Primary Greatness”.We did not teach them but we were supposed to be in charge of them.

Learning Outcome 1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:-

Out of all the activities,I chose football because it is a sport that I play on a regular basis and I have taken it as my PS.I play football everyday and I have a lot of interest in it.I know everything in this field so it makes me happy as I can help my friends in order to teach the children. There were many kids and I was not that good at handling kids.I had to make sure that the children had fun throughout the 6 sessions which I had to be with them.

If you know what are your strengths and weaknesses then you can work on them to make yourself a better person.Improving on the weaknesses helps me to become more confident.

I was able to conduct very brilliant sessions because I knew my weaknesses and how to overcome them. The children also enjoyed a lot.

Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process:-

The age group of the children was 6-15,thus we divided them into 2 groups of 6-11 and 11-15 years.Seeing that every child gets equal opportunities to play  was a difficult task.In the first session I was most active because I decided to know all the general information about the children in my group so that it would be easier in the upcoming sessions. It was difficult to handle everyone because the children from our school were playing separately and my main task was to unite them.

When all the responsibilities were on my head I was able to give out all my potential and recognized what I was capable to do.If we take up challenges then only we will be able to see the real us.It takes a lot of daring and confidence to take up challenges but once taken you learn how to live live, this is what I learned from this Service Session.

Learning Outcome 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience:-

As all these activities like CAS,TOK ,etc are new to us,it is a very crucial stage and to succeed in all the activities we need to PLAN.Planning makes everything possible and gives us a main gist of what I am supposed to do.

If everything is organized then all the tasks are easier to do and in the future it becomes a habit to do everything perfectly and planned. As I had to observe my juniors and instruct them what to do so I decided to plan all the activities for the rest of the session and informed them previously on what to do.This made all the 6 sessions to go fluently without any problem.Rain caused problems as we were not able to do everything we planned on those days.

This session also improved my communication and planning skills.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively:-

More people can do a task faster than a single person, this is the main reason why I like working collaboratively but when it is the same age or grade it is more easier,so my task was to understand my juniors as well.We had to work together for 2 hours and after understanding each other it was more easier. The session was very fruitful and fluent.

The IB learner profiles I learned form this session were Caring-to take care of the children and Communicators-how well I communicated with all my team members.

After the session I was very happy and I would love to do something like this again if I get the opportunity because after helping someone the smile on their face makes you feel relaxed and happy.
