- I learned these things about the Language used with reference to the culture of the country that I explored.
There are several types of culture in Asia, ranging from Chinese cultures which involve them of having exotic types of foods to Indian cultures which have many other cultures under its umbrella. Asia as a continent is a mixed plate. It has different types of cuisines throughout the continent and by far is known for the most exotic cultures and differences in people belonging to one continent.
- This is how I attempted to incorporate my ‘Language in Cultural Context’ learning into my project
The use of ATL skills connected what your project it to language, The most basic ATL skill presented in our group was communication, however, it lacked with some peers, some were good at communicating, we made a paragraph of each and every group member in our team to connect it back to language in cultural context, they had to speak this paragraph after completing the explanation of what they had to say. Also, we attempted to portray the influence of culture on the language and literature of Asia through which we further persuaded that language in a cultural context may have many aspects to it.
- These are the things I did well in my Project
- Management, Every Group had 5 to 6 members with them but in our group 3 of them had their SAT exam on the day of culture day and so they were not able to come, I was the project assistant, I had to manage all the work that is happening and also not happening, and I had to divide that into 3 people, to showcase what we have built or learned in our project.
- Last minute preparation, I was always ready to give my group members any help they wanted. My group’s continent was Asia and knowing the responsibility we tried not to be biased towards India and give the other countries equal importance so that our audience may gain knowledge about Asia as a whole rather than knowing only about India. To do that I suggested keeping a Japanese style sitting and other things to throw in some Asian spices.
- These are areas on which I could have worked to improve my process or final product(s).
Cooperating with my peers- It was difficult to cooperate with my peers because our views/ ideas were clashing, some use to say no to my every idea and I used to say no to all of their ideas, if we had solved that problem earlier, lack of communication between the two of us wouldn’t happen and we could easily work as a team. Being a leader I later learned that it is important to hear someone else’s perspective without any prejudice in order to get the best out of your team.
- The CAS learning outcome that I met through the project si/are:
L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
My strengths were that I was good at creativity, I gave an idea to have a food/drinks stall with items of around the continent to my group and that eventually became the centre of attraction in our project, there were many people who use to just come to enjoy our stall and while doing so take back a lot of learning too. To talk in front of people confidently wasn’t easy for me, sometimes I used to forget what I have to say or because of stage fear I wasn’t able to talk with other parents or students, I developed this area of not fearing and talking confidently in the project by taking time and by understanding what I had to say. I understood that only if I am sure about what to do and how to do will I be able to be confident and present my best self in front of our audience.
L2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills, commitment to and perseverance
As I mentioned above, 3 people had to do the work of 6 people that was the biggest challenge that our group faced, they had to put in a lot of hard work and ton of hours, some of the charts weren’t ready, so it was a challenge to make some charts in the last minute. The setting up of the background displays and other attractions was also tough, as the ideas were amazing but execution to a ton of time. We were to come early in the mornings, we used to do stay back and also used to work from home to complete our research and establish effective work.
