Video Making For farewell

I was appointed as a leader for the video editing team for the farewell which was given to the previous batch, we had to come up with 2 videos for the farewell one should be like a trailer of the farewell containing what they could expect from it and one should be like a movie for the final farewell as our theme for the farewell was a cinema hall.

I had Shrey Rathod as my partner and we had a team of 4 under us, we divided the workload amongst us where 3 people were asked to find photos and record videos for the raw footage and the trailer and the rest of the group had to edit all of that footage into a trailer and a movie for the farewell. I participated mainly in the editing part.

The activity was done in March of 2018 and the LOs covered in this activity are:- 1,2,3,4,5,7

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

My strengths were mainly on Windows-based systems as I am familiar with the way it operates and I have a good amount of knowledge about it. But we had one windows system and 2 mac os based systems, so I needed to learn how the mac os works and improve my skills on that operating system, this was challenging at first but after I got familiar with them my skills improved on both windows and mac os.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

We faced a lot of challenges as few of our team members we not familiar with the editing we chose to use for this activity so I had to teach one of the members how to use the software and how to edit the video together. next we weren’t getting sufficient videos and raw clips from the sources we anticipated we would get, then we resorted to social media at the teachers at fountainhead who had videos and photos saved from all the activities and the school trips they did with them and we found many photos on Instagram and Facebook which helped us a lot.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

We planned the process of recording, sorting, and editing date wise with some headroom to coverup any delays that may occur because of any reason possible. this planning was not easy to plan or to execute as we had to make 2 videos for the farewell where one was a trailer and another was a like a movie of their memories. The trailer was to be made first for the introduction of the farewell  a week earlier that then actually farewell, for that we had to record clips and edit them together to look like a trailer. then came the main part of making the movie where we had to dig into the archives for their videos and photos and make it into a movie.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

During this project we were already burdened with school submissions and my exams were approaching, this made it difficult of execute the initial plan. however this was going to be the last experience our seniors were going to get in school and we wanted it to be the best one, so we despite of the obstacles got it to gather and executed the project better than we thought.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Working with a group of 6 was very effective as we were able distribute the workload according to their skill set as some of the members were experienced with filming and clicking photos and some were familiar with editing and compiling, this made the workload much lesser than if only one person had to do it. This goes to show how it could be beneficial to be working collaboratively.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While editing the videos and the photos together we came across a problem where we didn’t have enough photos or videos of certain students which then would have created an issue of the student being upset on not being included in the videos as some students were new in the school and didn’t have enough time spent in school, to overcome this we had to use photos posted on their social media accounts. This helped us include all of the students into the video.
