Khel Mahakumbh Swimming and Practice 2017

Description of the particular activity and goals (100 words):   Participating in the competition by challenging myself to compete in the category above 17 in Khel mahakumbh and under 17 in SGFI. It would be a really challenging competition as I would be competing people older than me. I haven’t been to competitions since a long time, hence this brings up more nervousness in my mind. I will have to practice harder in order to compete with the people in regular practice.

Learning outcome 1: Identifying strength and weaknesses will help us develop ourselves, hence same applies to swimming. Strokes in swimming are really integral as I feel really good that I identified my weakness as it was disturbing my performance. My hands were crossing while I swam, which was a barrier which I had to overcome, hence with the help of my Coach, I was able to rectify it and improve my stroke gradually. As I identified them right now, I will be able to work on it and gain proficiency. Overcoming my weakness in swimming strokes, improved my stamina and speed and eventually my timing as I had to compete in 400m, which is a really difficult task for me.

Learning outcome 2: Developing new skills has always been an easy task for me, as I am able to grasp things fast. But this time in swimming, I wasn’t able to produce an amazing flip turn which can increase my timing. I wasn’t able to overcome this challenge as I didn’t practice for this flip turn enough. Due to this, I had lost a higher position in competition because of this skill being undeveloped. This skill could help me further if I now practice it diligently.

Learning outcome 4: Commitment and perseverance in swimming is really necessary for a competition point of view. Without commitment, you can never achieve anything (my belief). I committed myself to get selected in Gujarat state tournament. And I was selected because of my perseverance shown in regular practice. But I failed to secure a position in Khel Mahakumbh competition due to the lack of technique which was in excess in my opponents. I easily committed myself to win the competition and I had 50% success (I lost 1 competition). The memories I would take away are really wonderful, the exhilaration after winning the competition and the pride you feel. I really enjoyed practicing hard for the competition as I usually do not attend competitions but this opportunity fulfilled my dream to practice for a sports

Learning outcome 3: I planned out and scheduled my routine, inorder to maintain a healthy life style. I even created spreadsheets where i maintained logs of my routine. Such maintenance of logs helped me understand where I stand. By this, I understood my limitations and made the CAS experience smooth.
