Culture day real

We had to basically work together and present a presentation about the Inuit people that live in Antarctic regions. We had to decorate an entire classroom on the basis of the tribe and we also needed to work together to cover our weaknesses. There were many problems that stood in our way. Two of the group members had been absent on the day of the presentation and the other 3 group members had to communicate in order to have a smooth running of the project.

LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

My strengths were that I was creative and so for the theme of the classroom I had done the decoration on the walls and the floor to bring out the effect of snow all around. This was the centre of attraction in our project. I had to work hard in order to do things that haven’t been done before and for those reasons I had to identify my strong points and together with my group peers I had to cover up my weaker points. So that we can have a better experience on the project.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

The most challenging aspect of this activity was that I had to work with people with completely different skill sets. Meaning that I had to work with people that I hadn’t worked with previously. This was going to prove a good thing in the future. I had done many things of this type before and that too with people I didn’t know, and that is one of the reasons that I was ready for this project. It is important to take new challenges because of the skills that you master in. This increases your adaptability and in turn your efficiency in group projects. I had to make an entire presentation in a small number of days and this was one of the largest challenges that I had faced. Another challenge was that we were 3 people and we needed to completely decorate an entire classroom, which was quite large. This new skill makes me feel ready for the next group project. The only thing that I would have done differently would be to choose my own team members next time.

LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

This project had required extensive research and initiation. Since we had only 3 people when we were supposed to be 5, we needed to plan accordingly for proper execution. Usually i’m not the most organized; but when it’s a serious matter then I rarely joke around. The initiating was the difficult part because we needed to communicate with the peers of our friends and they also have certain expectations that we would perform well. This activity basically taught me about the importance of planning and now I know how important a plan is.

LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

In this activity perseverance was not an issue as this was quite short term, the main aspect was the commitment. We needed to give away free time and allocate time that had been previously given to other subjects to this activity. Our commitment here was time. It’s hard for me to commit my free time to a school project since i’m an avid believer in taking days off and the need for one to have a certain amount of free time in a day.

LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working with others is generally quite easy and enjoyable for me because of my nature as an extrovert. I like to talk to people and to work together, and that’s why it was easy to work in a group. As I said before; 2 of my teammates had their SAT exam, and I don’t harbor any feelings against them, and so it was quite hectic to work in a group of 3. The importance of working in a group is often understated. My group needed teamwork because even the people who weren’t in the day of the actual project but worked behind the scenes.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

We talked about how the growing issues for the Inuit people are affecting their daily lifestyles. We also talked about how the global warming is affecting their lives.  Global warming is a “global” problem since it affects the entire world together. Knowing about the problems that the future generations are going to face makes me want to work harder in order to save it. We need to use less plastics, and with the official ban of plastics India are making enormous strides towards being a green country.

The learning profiles that I developed were to be inquirers, reflective, and to be knowledgeable. These three will help me in the future projects. The highlight of the project has to be the decorations and the posters we had created. One takeaway I had was that “Never underestimate the power of teamwork”.
