This was a school initiated activity. We were taken to a beach, the beach was full of plastic and leftover waste. The sole aim of the activity was to clean the beach and play different games.
LO 6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
Pollution is a major threat to the environment, especially in India. Surat was once considered to be the second cleanest city in Surat but it has lost the crown in recent years. Plastic pollution on beaches can cause serious problems to humans as well as animals. Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution are deposited into our oceans. Around 100,000 marine mammals and turtles die because of marine plastic pollution every year. Also visiting beaches in India is always a very unpleasant experience. After cleaning the beach, I understood the extent of the problem. I was really happy to contribute to the environment and I wish people should also take initiatives like these across the country.
LO-7. Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Almost everyone has recognized the threat of plastic but very people take action to reduce the threat. We all did what we thought was ethically correct which is to clear all the plastic and leftovers from the beach to make it clean. Everyone contributed equally during this service despite the differences in age and gender. The school as well as the students could have published the happening of this event but we all did it from our own will and not for fame
