I am playing basketball for a long time but haven’t been able to continue my practice outside the school. So I took out 3 days in a week and attended basketball coaching there for at least a month. Before the summer break of 10th, I was in playing 5, on the basketball team but because of my poor performance in the team, I wasn’t in the playing in 5. I was really upset about it and wanted to prove myself. I wanted to be in the playing in 5 again. The competition was coming up, and in a year we only have 3-4 tournaments. So, I didn’t want to lose a chance here.
I started going for coaching outside the school. My dribbling wasn’t that great, so I started dribbling criss-cross, between the legs and behind the legs. In that 1 hour class, starting 20 minutes I worked on this and then as the competition was coming up, we played games against seniors to improve our game and coordination.
L1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I have been playing basketball for several years now. I knew what my strengths were and weaknesses both, as I used to ask the coach what are the areas which I need to work and what I should do to turn them into my strengths. For that to happen I had to practice a lot and be consistent. I came early to school, I went to external classes and I also practiced at home. All this hardworking helped me to achieve what I aimed for.
L2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
I faced many challenges like coming early to school was difficult for me, I was a person who used to be up till late, for this I changed my schedule and worked accordingly. I learned the time-management skill by doing this. Changes come over time, so in order to get better, I had to be patient. Overcoming all these problems have helped me develop skills other than basketball such as time management, problem-solving and many more.
L4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience
Consistency is the key, I had to commit to coming early to school and get better. I loved playing basketball and my desire to get better helped me to perceive my goal. Fitness was an issue for me so I also started going to the gym, and this helped my overall performance in basketball.
L5: Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Basketball is a team sport and coordination is the most important thing in the game. I may have practiced for hours and hours and worked on my individual skills and may have got better at it, but that improvement wouldn’t matter in the game if there was no coordination. To make sure I become better at the sport, I had to practice with my teammates. When I came to school early for practice, I tried to get my teammates also. We practiced together and we worked collaboratively. We all developed our skills together. My team helped me in many ways to get better and my seniors have guided me with their experience.
