EE Reflections

First Reflection.

Being a student who takes interest in world affairs and has undertaken global politics as an HL subject it was quite obvious that I would select this subject. As selecting a subject I really like would help me write the essay with greater depth and also would involve me and keep my interests high. I undertook my research by keeping my interests in mind, therefore, exploring them in order to bring out the best I have started off by reading some articles and looking at data and information on the United Nations website. By which I would be clear at what I am trying to go through this essay and further research through various means. Therefore reaching a decision to understand the effectiveness of the same in order to further stimulate their presence in the current world order. The array of problems I faced while choosing and making my title the research question was not making it biased and making it a perfect a mix of broad and narrow understanding of the topic

Second Reflection.

I was lucky enough that my research question and my plan was approved by my supervisor. So my journey towards writing the Extended Essay began. My research plan was set, I had based by Extended Essay completely on secondary research, therefore, I set out to read articles and understanding the topic at large in order to have a broader perspective about the topic at hand. Moreover, global politics has a very broad spectrum of knowledge, views and perspectives. So while reading an article I had to distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate articles to include in my research. So that my search could be accurate and could be able to serve its purpose I stuck to renowned websites like Reuters for research. More than a task it became a learning process, as we have to gain knowledge pertaining to the selected subject. It was a roller coaster ride on the learning curve to accomplishing my research.

Third Reflection.

If I were to undertake this research process once again, there would not be a significant change in my procedure. But I could have planned and put out relevant subtopics with sub-points to guide me through the procedure. I first kept on surfing and searching the web to read everything that there was to offer but not with a goal in my, which led to high time consumption and made the process tedious and irritating. This would have significantly made the task easier. As Global Politics looks at many thinkers and theories and embedding them in my essay without being abrupt and irrelevant would become a cakewalk if I would have planned accordingly. It just took more time to conduct the research and type out the evaluation and conclusion. As for research type is in question, I had to rely mostly on secondary research as the topic at hand was on a global scale, also the thinkers and theories application would demand international case studies and connections. The only time I looked at the primary research was when I checked my textbook and other reference books to verify whether the theories and conclusions that were formulated were relevant and accurate.
